Facts about Sedation Dentistry

  • It is absolutely safe. Dr. Smith will give you a small pill to take one hour prior to treatment. If you choose, he can give more pills once you get to the office to get the desired sedation effect. But Dr. Smith has found after several years of sedation dentistry, that I.V. Sedation is easier and just as safe as oral sedation.
  • Not all dentists can provide I.V. sedation. The Texas Dental Association only issues permits to trained dentists who have met the requirements of special training in advanced cardiac life support, EKG, pulse oximeter and blood pressure monitoring.
  • Most patients report having little or no memory of the experience, including sounds or smells.
  • Complex or time-consuming treatments that often require many appointments to complete can be done in as little as one with sedation dentistry at Smith Dental Care by reducing the fatigue of extended dental treatments.
